Earth Hour or Opportunists Hour?

Over heard in the Easons book shop of our local shopping center, two teenage boys:

'Here all the lights go out tonight for an hour so we can rob like fuck!'

What a lovely world we live in, for an hour many thousands of people will join for an hour to do what they can to help our little planet while there are those who are hell bent on just getting what they can. Poor education? Should we blame the parents? Blame society? Or should we just accept that throughout history there have been people like this and always will.

*sigh* I am not really sure one way or the other if a 60 minute shut down will make much of a difference but hey I suppose it gives people hope, a purpose and an aim. Makes people think they are helping even if they go home and rip open their packaged ready meal from M&S without a second thought. Where does the responsibility lie, can the small people make a difference? Do larger companies, councils and departments get on the band wagon because they really care about the environment or do they do it for publicity? Am I wrong to think that everyone has an agenda.

I shall go out tonight with the kids and perhaps try to get some photographs, my lights will be out but then again I will be burning fuel driving around the city looking for cool places to photograph and hoping to get something good for perhaps a photography competition so while yes I do care about the environment and what the future has in store for my children and their future families I too have an ulterior motive. My bad?
